On Nov. 28, Suite101 chatted with rising country singer Lizzie Sider. She has been inspired musically by such powerhouse female vocalists as Jamie O’Neal, Faith Hill, Sara Evans and Carrie Underwood.

She co-wrote her newest song “Butterfly” about overcoming the hurt of being excluded, teased and picked on by her peers in elementary school. “I would come home crying, begging my parents to home school me.  One day, my dad said to me, ‘Nobody has the power to ruin your day,’ and I eventually came to understand what that meant, and started to find the strength within myself to overcome the teasing. I hope that ‘Butterfly’ will inspire others who have been knocked down to find their courage and strength to rise up and overcome whatever mistreatment or misfortune they have experienced,” she said.

She had the good fortune to work with one of her childhood influences, Jamie O’Neal. “I love Jamie. She is so much fun to work with. She is so sweet and I always felt that she treated me with professional respect, even though I was 13 when we first worked together.  We still keep in touch and have a great relationship,” Lizzie said.

Lizzie would love to someday work with such artists as Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Hunter Hayes, Trace Adkins and Charles Kelley from Lady Antebellum. In the meantime, she is continuing to work on her craft, improving her guitar, piano and vocal skills and getting herself out there. “I hope that I will touch and inspire people to reach for their dreams. My dreams include performing at large venues like Bridgestone and Madison Square Garden for sold out crowds! One of the things I have learned in this business is that you never know what can happen and I am ecstatic for the road ahead,” she said.

When asked what is something that most people may not know about her, she said, “I have my mom’s old Monkey’s 45 record hanging up in my bedroom. I was thrilled to meet Davy Jones when I was 10 years old.”

Most recently, she performed at Couture Fashion Week at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City and she sang at Paul Tuttle Sr.’s birthday party this past August. “I love New York and would love to come back again,” she said.

On Nov. 29, 2012, Lizzie will be performing at “On The Avenue,” a holiday season kick-off at Delray Beach, Florida.
