Voices of Empowerment
in Business,
Challenges and Opportunities
in the Music Industry

Inside every business there are individuals who navigate the treacherous waters and come out victorious and others who lose their way, falling prey to abusers looking for victims.  This dynamic is pervasive in life and is readily apparent in all sectors of business — whether the music industry in Los Angeles, the finance sector on Wall Street or the automobile industry in Detroit.

This Saturday, February 23, GWEN Talks will feature an intimate conversation about the challenges and opportunities in a very specific business — the music industry. COO and co-founder of GWEN, Tess Cacciatore will speak with three music business professionals from varying walks of life who have experienced or witnessed abuse and managed to rise above the challenge and stay true to their creative calling.

Lizzie Sider, a teen country female artist, provides a great story about overcoming life’s obstacles, mistreatments and/or misfortunes in her debut single, “Butterfly.” Sider’s strong family backing keeps her already clear mind on track and helps her navigate the ups and downs of music industry.

Jennifer Hertberg, a young singer/songwriter from Las Vegas, got mixed up with the wrong crowd in college only to return to her hometown to fall deeper into trouble. Suffering from low self-esteem, Hertberg was forced into prostitution.  Compelled by her strong desire to pursue a music career, Hertberg escaped before it was too late. She now is pursuing her music education and career in Los Angeles.

Steve Adorno is a music producer/composer/artist who has been in the music business for more than two decades. Adorno adds his intimate insights into the industry, sharing stories of industry professionals – how some empowered their colleagues and how some abused.

About our Speakers

Lizzie Sider

Lizzie Sider is 14 years old and a freshman in high school in South Florida. Music and theater first got into her heart and soul in the small town of Jackson, WY where she has spent the greater part of every summer since she was born. At age 4 she saw her first musical, Annie Get Your Gun, where she is said to have been sitting in the front row during performances singing out loud to all of the songs as the cast performed.

Growing up, Sider attended concerts of Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, and others. She knew that she wanted to do what they do just as she knew when she saw the performances at the Jackson Hole Playhouse.
Sider has recently opened for Jamie O’Neal and for Aaron Tippin.

She was recently the featured performer at the Ocala, FL and Inverness, FL Rodeos and has played at numerous Nashville venues including the Bluebird Café and a featured artist at the Commodore Lounge. She recently performed in the Grand Ballroom at The Waldorf Astoria Hotel at Couture Fashion Week in NYC. Additionally, Sider was the host of Breaking Out, The Country Network’s television show that showcases up-and-coming country artists.

Lizzie has a calling to perform on the big stage and to become a role model and inspiration to others.

With a whole lot of country and a hint of pop, Sider provides a great story about overcoming life’s obstacles, mistreatments and/or misfortunes in her debut single, Butterfly. Listeners will be surprised at her mature and deep sounds.

Jennifer Hertberg

Jennifer Hertberg is a lively 25-year-old student activist living in North Hollywood, California. Originally hailing from Las Vegas, Hertberg moved to Los Angeles in April 2010 to pursue a degree in music. In 2013, she will graduate from the Musicians Institute with a BA in music, specializing in vocal performance, and a minor in music industry studies.

After graduation, Hertberg plans to kick-start her career as a solo artist while she continues to work with the global non-profit GWEN. She is a very passionate about raising awareness about abuse and dedicated to putting an end to the horrible injustices faced by women and children around the globe. Surviving a series of traumatic events herself, Hertberg has a passionate desire to help people heal and recover from abuse. She wants to create powerful music that will touch and empower. Working tirelessly over the last two years, Hertberg has found her music and freed her voice. She hopes that her songs will do the same for others.

Steve Adorno

Steve Adorno is a natural born musician. His solid Bronx backbeat has powered several name acts, including Sara Dash: Labelle fame (Lady Marmalade), Linda Hopkins and Kid Creole and the Coconuts. In 1980, Adorno, a rare singing drummer, joined Arista recording artist GQ, whose three number one hit singles include the now classic dance hit Disco Nights.
